Trims and skirting
Built-in trims
Section titled “Built-in trims”Rooms can have skirting boards, dado rails (two-tone walls above and below), cornices and floor dividers; every opening can have an architrave.
Select a room (its Trims section) or an opening (its Architrave section) and choose a style from the grid of cards in Properties. You can also drag a trim card from the Assets window onto a room in the view. Trims follow the walls round corners, arcs, platforms and flights, and run through openings.
To paint the band under a dado rail, use the Paint tool with Alt+click (see Painting).
Under sloped and raised walls
Section titled “Under sloped and raised walls”A cornice follows the top of each wall. Where a wall has a height of its own (sloped, raised, lowered, or fitted to a roof) the cornice hangs from that top edge, climbing and falling with it and changing slope where the wall does (up and over a ridge), and meets the cornice of the next wall at the corner. Doors and windows that reach it stop it.
Custom profiles
Section titled “Custom profiles”A profile is the cross-section of a trim, drawn as points in millimetres. Open the Trim profile editor with Window > Trim profiles, or double-click a trim card in the Assets window.
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Drag a point | Move it (1 mm / 5 mm steps; Shift is free) |
| Double-click a line | Add a point |
| Delete | Remove the selected point |
The editor also has a table of the points, Mirror, Reverse and Scale, and a picture of the profile swept round a room corner as you edit.
| Kind | Origin and axes |
|---|---|
| Skirting | Origin at the floor and wall corner, x out of the wall, y up. |
| Dado rail | Origin on the wall at the rail height, y up or down. |
| Cornice | Origin at the ceiling and wall corner, x out, y down. |
| Architrave | Origin at the opening’s edge on the wall face; negative x goes into the reveal. |
A profile that crosses itself, lies behind the wall or has fewer than two points is not built; the room says so in Problems.
Saving and sharing profiles
Section titled “Saving and sharing profiles”A profile is a portable .ietrim text file. The project keeps them in Assets/Trims/. Import, Save as a file and
Save to my library move them between projects and people. The built-in styles are listed as read-only cards to Duplicate
and start from.
A room’s skirting, dado or cornice (and a door’s or window’s architrave) picks a custom profile from the same style grid, with a Scale % row.
